In 2020, Uncork’d Entertainment and director Ali Zamani brought the world an action horror film called Angels Fallen. Now Uncork’d and Zamani are gearing up to get a sequel, Angels Fallen: Warriors of Peace, into production this August, and Variety has broken the news that Denise Richards (Valentine) and Arifin Putra (The Raid 2) have signed on to star in the film.
In Angels Fallen: Warriors of Peace, the hero Gabriel will
round up his motley crew of demon slayers, styled as the ‘Warriors of Peace’, to fight an apocalypse-bound army of the dead.
Denise Richards will team with “The Raid 2” star Arifin Putra for “Angels Fallen: Warriors of Peace.” The film, which shoots in Los Angeles in August, is a sequel to 2020 action horror film “Angels Fallen.”
Ali Zamani, who directed the first film, and previously directed family comedy “C.I. Ape” and horror thriller “Incision,” will continue the franchise, typified by its metaphysical mania and muscle power. With Nicola Posener and Houston Rines in the lead roles, the first film also employed the services of veterans Michael Madsen, Eric Roberts and Nicholas Turturro.
First-time actress, Kaylynn Kubeldis, an alumnus of Junior Blind of America, picks up the Best Young Actress award at the 10th Annual World Music & Independent Film Festival (WMIFF) in Washington D.C.
Kubeldis, who was born blind, stars in AZ Films’ drama feature film ‘OPUS OF AN ANGEL’, alongside veteran actor William McNamara (Natural Enemy), Cindy Pickett (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off), Jamison Newlander (The Lost Boys), and is the first young actress, with such a disability, to be recognized for their outstanding performance in a feature film.
I was always inspired by the thought of how someone would deal with the notion of losing everything that was so dear to them, what triggered them, when they were at the lowest moment of their life, to turn to suicide, and what stories they had to tell. One day while I was out for coffee, I saw a special ed class on a field trip. One child was visually impaired and had an infectious smile and life seemed to be so beautiful to her. It got me thinking of how these two extreme outlooks on life, if touched, would they be able to influence each other and to what extent.

Thank you for talking with me about your new movie Opus of an Angel. It’s a pleasure to have this opportunity. Let’s start with you. Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.
Tragedy strips a successful man (William McNamara) of his family. Exactly one year later he sets off on a final trip around Los Angeles and encounters Maria (Kaylynn Kubeldis). Lost, blind and in need of salvation he takes her under his wing as they journey across town.
This film delicately explores chance encounters, serendipitous coincidence and divine intervention whilst instilling a preternatural calm. Character driven but emotionally detached Opus of an Angel employs hand held framing devices, close up moments of subtle symbolism and acts of stark violence for dramatic effect. Shot for the most part on location and employing a documentary approach it is consistently hypnotic and ultimately absorbing.

What is the value of one’s life? Is it contribution, personal growth, family, accumulation of wealth and possessions? These are questions the movies have posed to many characters who face a certain crisis, where the choice to end it all seems a better option than not. With Ali Zamani‘s latest drama Opus of an Angel, we travel once again with a man on the edge of a disturbing choice, a film that ponders the existential with a walk through LA, challenging us to think about our own personal journey.

Directed by Ali Zamani, and written by Shahram Zargari (Maul Dogs) and Ali Zamani, Opus Of An Angel, follows Stephen (McNamara), a successful family man, until a tragic event cost him everything. Exactly one year from the tragedy, Stephen has created a sentimental tour of the City of Angels, as a tribute to those he lost. His final stop will be back at his home, where he plans to commit suicide. During his journey he has a chance encounter with Maria, a blind girl (Kubeldis), who is lost and wandering the city. Unable to find her guardians he reluctantly brings her with him. Although their journey is wrought with many obstacles, Maria effortlessly begins opening his eyes to the boundless beauty of the world. As they get closer to the end of their time together, Stephen’s frozen heart becomes thawed by Maria’s warm charisma. Her positive perspective forces Stephen to confront his inner demons and the decision to end his life. Bringing him face to face with the questioning of whether their encounter was mere coincidence, or divine intervention.
There are no comprehensive statistics on how many independent films are made each year. We can begin to get a sense by looking at statistics from the Sundance Film Festival, where in 2017 2,367 films were submitted and 225 accepted to be screened. Most film critics will watch a few hundred films per year, the large majority of these being from the major motion picture industry or film festivals like Sundance, and the average film viewer will watch much less than that. That means that the vast majority of independent films will find a very small audience. If they’re lucky, they might get picked up by a streaming provider or gain some traction on Amazon, but even that leaves thousands of films without any practical form of distribution. This is all in an age where complaints and criticisms about major studios rightly note a lack of new voices and originality, focusing on sequels, remakes, reboots, and shared universe properties.
This year's selection for special screening at Hollywood Weekly Magazine Film Festival is Opus of an Angel by AZ Films in connection with Junior Blind of America which has Stevie Wonder on its Board of Directors.
